All three members of Rick Hendrick's team have something to prove this year.

Terry Labonte, like all champions, would love to defend his title. He will be pressured all season to maintain the consistency that put him out front last year. Jeff Gordon is itching to win the crown back from his teammate, after coming up just short last season. A better start this season could propel him out front for the whole year. Ricky Craven is a new jockey in the stables. He'll want to prove that he is worthy of a Hendrick uniform, and maybe he'll take his team to victory lane for the first time in years.

The three Hendrick drivers have uphill battles facing them for the full season, each doing his best to meet the expectations placed on him. However, not all of the battles will be fought on the track. Rick Hendrick will be facing his own challenges during this season.

Hendrick has recently been diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening form of leukemia. He faces six months of rigorous treatment in preparation for blood and bone marrow testing. While undergoing treatment that is life-threatening in itself, he will also be defending himself in Federal Court.

This will be a long, hard year for the Hendrick team. There will be many stories of their trials and triumphs over the course of the season. This will be one championship battle that will not be forgotten for a long time.
